June was set to be an exciting month, with two of my favourite races from last year on the calendar and warm weather covering most of Europe.I travelled to France in the middle of June, ready for the Classique de Bourbons. Unfortunately, the night before the race we found out it had been cancelled due to the extreme heat. It was incredibly frustrating after all the preparation, but I quickly shifted my focus to the Région Sud UCI, a big three-day stage race at the end of the month. After enjoying this race so much last year and showing some promising performances as a first-year rider, I went into the weekend hoping for another strong result. Physically, I felt great and knew I had the legs to be competitive. However, I found myself getting dropped on every significant descent. Ever since my crash, I’ve been mentally struggling with high-speed descending, and it showed throughout the race.It was a difficult reality to face. Knowing my fitness was there but being held back by a lack of confidence was incredibly frustrating. Even so, it’s another step in the journey, and while this is a challenge I wasn’t expecting to still be facing, it’s one I’m determined to overcome.
